Biography

Dr. Carrie Selin, a Red River Métis woman, is the Wawatay Academic Programming Lead at the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Science. With a background in Microbiology (PhD, 2012), Dr. Selin is dedicated to advancing Indigenous student success in science through culturally meaningful education and mentorship. She has developed and taught courses that integrate Indigenous knowledge with Western Science using a “two-eyed seeing” approach, honoring Indigenous contributions to scientific knowledge and offering students a holistic learning experience. Her efforts extend beyond the university, as she engages with Manitoba schools and organizations, such as the Verna J. Kirkness Education Foundation and Let’s Talk Science, to support Indigenous students in their academic journeys.
